Our Community
Working at the farm
Supporting our local community is very important to Killakee Christmas Tree Farm. We are delighted to provide memorable work experience for a fantastic team of helpers from the local community annually. We take young adults from Transition Year upwards who enjoy the outdoors, meeting people, working hard and spreading great festive cheer. If you’re interested in working at Killakee Christmas Tree Farm please express your interest by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) from September.
School Visits
We support our local community with organised School Visits for local schools in November and December. We welcome school groups of up to 30 people accompanied by their teacher to come and learn how a Christmas Tree Farm works, how Christmas Trees grow and how growing real Christmas Trees are beneficial for the environment. It’s a fun, educational visit including a scavenger hunt. To find out more about a school visit please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Note school visits are limited in number as we are a small family business and allocated on a first come first served basis.
Our environment
Did you know that an acre of growing Christmas Trees can produce enough oxygen for 18 people a day? Breathe in the fresh air when you visit the farm and appreciate the important role your choice to pick a real Christmas Tree plays in tackling climate change. At Killakee Christmas Tree Farm we replant at least 2 trees for every tree we cut down each year. Please recycle your Christmas Tree after the festive season. Read more about Why Real Trees are better for the environment here.
Sustainability
Our aim at Killakee Christmas Tree Farm is to tread lightly on our patch of this earth. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We started planting Christmas Trees to put our land to good use for the local environment. Every acre of growing Christmas Trees can produce enough oxygen for 18 people a day. Christmas trees absorb harmful CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. As we replant at least 2 trees for every tree we cut down our farm we are developing a sustainable business for future generations. We always choose a compostable option in anything we use at the farm from the Tags to our coffee cups. We reuse any available timber around the farm for example in seating, signage and stands.
